River View Kindergarten Royal Ball a crowning touch
By Josie Sellers Beacon Editor
River View kindergarten students were the kings and queens of the school during the recent Kindergarten Royal Ball, organized by teacher Cassidy Berry.
“ Being in my third year of the Resident Educator Program and my third year teaching, a requirement is to come up with a teacher leadership activity,” she said.“ The Kindergarten Royal Ball went hand in hand with our new CKLA curriculum, unit seven. In unit seven all kindergartners learned about kings and queens. At the end of each unit, we do a fun culminating event on the unit we just completed. I decided to throw us a royal ball and have the kindergartners and their families dress as royalty, kings, queens, princes and princesses.”
All kindergarten students in the district were invited to attend the ball.

River View kindergarten students were the kings and queens of the school during the recent royal ball organized by teacher Cassidy Berry.
Seventy signed up, and about 64 attended.
“ The students absolutely loved it, and the parents, families and other staff members have told me all good things about the event,” Berry said.
Prior to the start of the ball, girls were given the opportunity to have their hair done by Paige Salters from Wild Styles Hair Studio and her friend Anisha Richesson. The music and gym teacher taught students a ballroom dance, which they performed for parents, and then there was freestyle dancing for all in the gym. Drinks, snacks, a craft and photo booth were in the cafeteria.
“ At one point in the evening, I was on the dance floor with a few students, and it brought tears to my eyes,” Berry said.“ Everyone was having so much fun. I love seeing the kids having a good time with their classmates where it’ s not so structured and just fun. I believe spending time with your family is important, and I was so glad to see many families all dressed up and dancing together.”
She is appreciative of the support she received from staff members and friends.
“ I had many staff members offer to help monetarily, but I bought everything for the event this year since it was something I had planned for my leadership event with the exception of a couple staff members donating money to me after the event,” Berry said.“ Mrs. Beitzel, a wonderful colleague and kindergarten teacher, helped set up the evening before and run the event the night of. My mom Angie Cantrell and another colleague / friend of mine, Rachelle Bible, helped with decorating, cleanup and tearing down.” Fellow kindergarten teachers, paraprofessionals and even a staff member’ s
Rowe named new dairy queen at banquet
By Marianne Austin The Beacon
Morgan Rowe, the 14-year-old daughter of Cherish and John Rowe and a freshman at River View High School, was crowned dairy queen for 2025 at the Coshocton County Career Center, following the county dairy service banquet.
Rowe said she enjoyed meeting new people from different counties and representing Coshocton as the dairy princess.
“ I’ ve shown dairy my whole 4-H career, and I have been a part of the whole dairy family for a long time. I was very surprised to be chosen to represent Coshocton,” she said.
Shiloh Kinzel, the 16-year-old daughter of Andy and Missy Kinzel and the 2024 dairy queen, said she just enjoyed being able to say she was the dairy queen because there are not too many left.
“ In a lot of these counties, the dairy industry is very low. Basically,

you go by age level, and if you have been showing dairy for a while, you have a better chance of getting in. It all depends on how old you are and how close you are to being done with your 4-H career. So I’ m older, and I am closer to being done than Morgan,” Kinzel said.
Maureen Sturtz gave special recognition to board members Nancy Laumers and Clayton and Chris King. The girls who manned the dairy show at the Coshocton County Fair including Nancy Moore, Missy Kinzel, Pam Mitchell and Amy Yoder were all recognized along with the new agriculture extension agent Brett Kinzel and Lowell Hoffman and David and Emily Marrison from the extension office. Special recognition went to Chuck and Sally Ellis of Pearl Valley Cheese.
The Coshocton County Fair 2024 royalty also were recognized. Attendant Ashlyn Tumblin, Queen Taryn Tumblin and King Conley Weber shared their experiences for the past year including riding in parades and participating in the fall foliage tour.
Sturtz also recognized 40 years of former royalty members, and they all sat down together for a photograph.
