TrendingTreats offers sweet treats

After Carolyn Sturtz started making candied fruit for her family and friends, she discovered many people in the community loved her treats. TrendingTreats by CarolynKay was started in early June, and business has kept her and her daughters Kayleigh, Ryleigh and Paisleigh busy.
“ I may do the cooking, but my daughters are my little helpers in many ways. They offer to help keep things tidy, bring me joy when I feel a little overwhelmed, and they love to slip on gloves and help me apply sprinkles,” Sturtz said.“ I love to allow their creative minds to help me pick colors for the candy. We sit down and brainstorm new treat ideas almost every night.”
She chose the name Trending- Treats by CarolynKay because she wanted a name that fit her idea.“ I love to make treats that everyone wants to try that have been trending but they just don’ t have the time to make— and also try to create my own recipes that trend,” she said.
Sturtz said when she started creating her treats, her intention was just to give the community a chance to try items locally that no one else was making.
“ I had no idea all of our locals would show so much love and support,” she said.“ I am so thankful for everyone who has supported me.

The community gardens has produced its first crop, peas. Jean Borden, of Kno-Ho-Co, says harvest will begin in about three days, and the group is now seeking freezers and canning equipment. The Retired Senior Volunteers Program, which Borden coordinates, will donate the preserved food to food banks. The community gardens is a cooperative effort between RSVP and the River View FFA, under Ray Griffith.

“ I felt it was worth it to have the celebration and commemoration of 170 years,” said Keene Postmaster Rose Richard. An open house was held at her home, which also serves as the post office. Those who attended were served refreshments as well as commemorative mugs and presented with a copy of the history of the Keene Post Office, written by Mrs. W. W. Hunter of Fresno. Richard took over the office of postmaster 25 years ago from her father.“ I intend to stay here as long as I possibly can,” she said.
