Fellowship of Christian Athletes members are stepping outside of their own classrooms and athletic fields to offer opportunities to those with disabilities .
The FCA All-Abilities Camp will be held Friday and Saturday , July 15-16 at Kids America . FCA is hosting the camp in partnership with Coshocton Regional Medical Center , Coshocton DD , Kids America and other community organizations .
FCA ’ s ministry is to all coaches and athletes . All-ability means the inclusion of people with disabilities and emphasizes the biblical message of “ in God we are all able .” All-ability camps encourage everyone with disabilities to participate in sports . The event is open for campers age 5-25 , and there is no fee .
Tristan Griffin , Akron area director of FCA , shared with local organizers that FCA held its first all-abilities camp in 2021 . It became a global initiative in February , and 11 camps are now being held this summer .

Isaac Jansen , left , was excited for the opportunity to participate in athletic events . said . “ This is personal for me . My oldest daughter has a disability . A lot of times people with disabilities are on the outside looking in , trying to figure out how to be part of what ’ s going on . This gives them a chance to be included and called an athlete .”

Nick Johnson from the Coshocton FCA office is excited to bring this project here .
“ I had helped with the Special Olympics here before and knew we had the ideal facility to do this in ,” he said .
Shannon Shontz with the Coshocton County Board of DD said they have not participated in the annual Special Olympics Track and Field Day for two years now , due to COVID .
“ We ’ ve had bowling events that were school specific instead ,” she said . “ Track and field day was always a big event for us , and some really looked forward to it . I like the community involvement piece of this and that people with disabilities get to enjoy activities that others do .”
