Please remember your children are always watching you

As I sit down to write this month ’ s article , I am thinking about the song “ Watching You ” by Rodney Atkins . The chorus begins with the line , “ I ’ ve been watching you Dad , ain ’ t that cool ,” and if you don ’ t know the song , the chorus goes on to talk about how his son wants to be like him . How true this is in my life , and I hope

in the lives of all of you reading . Both of my boys watch my wife and me and mimic what we do .
For instance , the other day I was playing with
both my boys , and I was running around the yard acting crazy . I ’ d stop and hop on one foot , then act like a monkey . All the while both my boys were laughing and doing the same thing . It was a big game of copycat . Daddy would do something goofy , and then Joey and Caleb would both do the same thing because it was
making me laugh . We did this for probably 10-15 minutes .
We as fathers need to remember our children are watching everything we do . This is how they learn how to react to certain situations . I ’ m going to tell on myself again with this little story . I had gotten up to use the restroom , and my youngest son Caleb had some toys out all over the living room floor . I happened to step on a Lego , and any of you parents who have stepped on Legos know how bad it hurts . I said a choice word and hopped on one foot . I proceeded to do what I needed to do .
A couple minutes later , I ’ m talking to my wife , and my son Caleb proceeded to hit his foot on his Mickey Mouse table and said the same thing I had said and hopped on one foot . I looked at my wife and apologized to her and then talked as best as you can to a 2-yearold about not saying that word .
So my point in sharing these stories is our children are always watching us . Dads , let ’ s do everything we can to be the example our young men and women need . Remember dads , we are the ones who show our sons how to treat a lady , and we also show our daughters how a man should treat them in the future .
Moms , it is your responsibility to show your sons how a lady should treat them in the future . Even if you are not with your child ’ s mom or dad , we still need to do our best not to put our child ’ s parents down in front of them . When our kids are around , we need to treat the parents of our kids with respect and the way we want our children to treat other people . Our kids are watching what we do and will treat people the way we do .
So remember the words of “ Watching You ” by Rodney Atkins . “ He said I ’ ve been watching you Dad , ain ’ t that cool .”

MEET RICKY BOBBY

This handsome fellow is Ricky Bobby . He ’ s being fostered at one of our volunteer ’ s homes right now and gets along with all the animals in their home and is very fun loving . This rascal will try to get out and enjoy the fresh air so a place where he can safely be outside and inside would be good . We urge you to keep cats inside , but some are acclimated to being outside . Ricky doesn ’ t know a stranger and would love to go straight from his foster momma to a forever home .
