RVHS brings home 10 medals , new school record

Seven girls and four boys represented River View High School at the Ohio High School Athletic Association ’ s
Central / Southeast District Tournament Meet at Ohio University on Feb . 14 . There were 32 swimmers in each

River View ’ s girls placed seventh in the 400-freestyle relay with a finals time of 4:08.68 . individual event and 24 teams in relay events . The top eight in all 11 events earned a spot on the podium , with the top three being awarded an automatic state prelims berth . The Black Bears brought home medals in four of the girls events and had a new school record yard time in the boys backstroke .
Medalists for the girls included the sixth-place 200 medley relay group consisting of sophomore Riley Gottardi in the backstroke ( 32.10 ), sophomore Lily Grewell in the breaststroke ( 35.27 ), senior Ally Fischer in the butterfly ( 29.69 ) and junior Britany Hammond in the freestyle ( 29.12 ) with a finals time of 2:06.18 . ( 59.43 ) also placed seventh in the 400-freestyle relay with a finals time of 4:08.68 . In individual events Gottardi placed fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.28 , and Fischer was eighth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33.13 .

Coshocton High School senior Alex Taylor reached one of his career goals this year .
“ It was always a goal of mine to reach 1,000 career points ,” he said . “ I saw other kids doing it when I was growing up and knew I wanted to do it too . I knew I was close , but I didn ’ t realize I ’ d done it . We were away , and it wasn ’ t until the next day that I knew I broke 1,000 .”
Taylor credits his accomplishment to a lot of hard work .
and Britany Hammond placed 16th ( 1:56.91 ); Gottardi was 12th in the 100 fly ( 1:05.78 ); Fischer was 16th in the 100 back ( 1:11.15 ); Grewell was 25th ( 1:19.31 ) and Mc- Masters 26th ( 1:20.49 ) in the 100 breast ; and senior Ava Lewis was 31st ( 7:00.03 ) in the 500 free .
Leading the way for the boys was senior Jamison Adams , who broke the school record held by Nate Cooper in the 100 back with
a 10th-place time of 57.17 and finished 15th ( 54.03 ) in the 100 free . The relay of Adams , sophomore Dustin Gregory , sophomore JT Allison and junior Kyle Roach was 14th ( 3:54.96 ) in the 400 free and 18th ( 1:58.79 ) in the 200 medley , and Allison was 24th ( 5:57.35 ) in the 500 free , Gregory was 26th ( 1:06.24 ) in the 100 fly and Roach was 27th ( 57.88 ) in the 100 free .

CHS senior hits 1,000 career points

“ I worked all summer , every single day ,” he said . “ I shot a lot and spent hours in the gym .”
Taylor wants to play college basketball but is not sure where yet .
“ I ’ ve always known I wanted to play at the next level ,” he said . “ I love everything about the game .”
CHS head coach James Herman said Taylor is a great young man and they are lucky to have him .
“ He ’ s aggressive and always ready to give us what we need ,” Herman said . “ He ’ s one of the reasons why this year has been so much fun .”
