Conkle has record-breaking season for the CHS Redskins

Colton Conkle ’ s senior basketball season has been a record-breaking one .
The Coshocton High School senior recently became the school ’ s alltime leading scorer and broke the county scoring record .
The Redskins were away at New Lexington when he broke the first record .
“ I knew it was possible to do this year , but I also knew it was going to be hard ,” Conkle said . “ I ’ m a pass-first player .”
He scored 33 points in the New Lex game to pass the previous career mark of 1,510 points set by Tom Sandry . Sandry set his record in 1984 . He came up to Coshocton from North Carolina to present Conkle with the game ball marking the new record .
The county scoring record Conkle broke was last set by his father Jeremy Conkle , a graduate of Ridgewood High School .
“ He told me if anyone was going to break it , he was happy I did ,” Colton Conkle said .
Jeremy Conkle is very proud of his son .
“ He ’ s put a tremendous amount of work into his game , and all his hard work has definitely paid off ,” Jeremy Conkle said . “ I like seeing how much love he has for the game . Growing up , I never let him win . He always had to earn it .”
Jeremy Conkle is part of Coshocton ’ s coaching staff now but has worked with Colton on his game his whole life .
“ When he was really young , we focused hard on ball-handling and dribbling ,” Jeremy Conkle said . “ He loves getting his teammates involved in the game .”
CHS head coach James Herman said it ’ s a blessing to coach a special young man like Colton Conkle . “ He scores all these points , but he ’ s just as

WE ’ RE OPEN LATE ON MONDAY happy to have assists or rebounds ,” Herman said . “ You don ’ t get an opportunity to coach someone like that very often . He ’ s hardworking and uses the gifts God ’ s given him . He ’ s consistent and gives us whatever we need every night .”
Colton Conkle also is big on celebrating his teammates .
“ He celebrates their accomplishments probably more than his own ,” Herman said . “ When Caden drained a three the other day , I think that ’ s the most excited I ’ ve seen Colton all year . He ’ s always there for his friends , teammates and brothers .”
Colton Conkle plans to play basketball in college and major in business .
“ I want to thank my family members and family friends for supporting me and my coaches for pushing me ,” he said . “ I love the game of basketball and getting everyone involved . Always have your teammates backs . That ’ s advice I live by .”
