Students from the Coshocton area were among the more than 660 students who earned scholarships at Baldwin Wallace University this fall .
BW has a long history of scholarship support from alumni , faculty , trustees and friends . More than 400 named scholarships provide more than $ 3.8 million to help students attend , persist and graduate from BW . In addition , they carry on the donors ’ legacies through the lives of the students who receive their support .
The scholarships vary in requirements , with many specifying financial need , a course of study , involvement on campus or a commitment to excellence in a particular field . The following local students earned scholarships :
Erica Schwartz of Fresno , a graduate of Ridgewood High School majoring in
early childhood education , earned the Carolyn Kratt Parker Memorial Scholarship and the Frank & Hazel Larimer Merit Scholarship in Education .

Letter to the Editor

We are in the midst of the holiday season when we are supposed to celebrate a variety of things : good fortune , a successful year , family , football wins and losses , a birth of a King , and quite possibly peace on Earth .
“ Glory to God in the highest , and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased ” ( Luke 2:14 , NASB ).
Honestly , I am not sure how pleased God really is with us as a whole when there is so much confusion , division and animosity between people . I have heard the “ hate ” word tossed around like the “ good morning ” traditional greeting .
Currently , we are living in a country where “ succession ” has been suggested by members of the Republican Party . The “ Party of Lincoln ” should be appalled by a discourse on dividing what so many individuals laid their lives down to preserve . Other individuals have openly suggested violence toward anyone who disagrees with them , sending anime memes , threatening texts and other socialmedia threats of harm . And we wonder why it has become normalized to drive a car through a parade route or shoot up a school , mall or grocery store and even shout expletives at a school board meeting rather than a civilized dialogue .
Our current group of politicians refuses to cooperate inter and intra party to the detriment of the folks who elect them to get something done . They pontificate about meaningless agendas and stoke fear and hate amongst their constituents rather than the calm rule of law and justice for all . So many individuals are regulated to being second-class citizens in a country that promoted itself as a “ land of opportunity .”
People quote the Bible to support their political positions but have never taken the time to actually read the whole text ever . The masses willingly consume what is being dished out and accept what is being said , and they are biblically illiterate of context , time and language and are accepting what is being said because it feels good .
I Timothy 2:8 , “ Therefore I want the men in every place to pray , lifting up holy hands , without wrath and dissension .”
That is a big ask . I would also say it is a great appeal to our better selves to take a moment and pray . I would go as far as say to reflect on what it is we are doing that is wrong so we can lift up hands that are free of “ verbal bloodshed ” — that we can move past anger , wrath and dissension so we all can get to a better place together .
Wishing you all the best this season as well as the coming year . Ed Gallagher
