Ohio libraries asking patrons to call state officials over funds

Ohio libraries are asking their patrons to contact Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman and Rep. Mark Hiner and tell them not to cut Ohio’ s public libraries. The Ohio House of Representatives introduced its version of the proposed state budget, which eliminates the Public Library Fund, a fund that provides 51 % of total funding to Ohio’ s public libraries. The proposal creates a line-item appropriation representing a $ 100 million loss to library funding compared to Gov. Mike DeWine’ s proposal( 1.75 % of General Revenue Fund to PLF).
Funds received from the Public Library Fund to Coshocton County District Library( Coshocton location, West Lafayette Branch Library and Bookmobile) represent 75 %( 2024) of the library’ s total revenue. These funds support the following:
— Library programming for all ages: early childhood literacy, Summer Reading Program, history programs, book clubs and more.
— Collection additions

Mickey Arnold, along with her husband, Bob, moved to West Lafayette, Ohio in 1960. Mickey and Bob were born, raised, and met in Zanesville, Ohio.
Mickey has long been known in Coshocton County for providing rentals at a low cost to people in need of a helping hand.
For over 50 years Bob provided dental services and made custom dentures for patients at his West Lafayette dental office.
Bob passed away in 2018, and not long after, in 2019, Mickey fell ill to a debilitating case of face shingles. During her unfortunate illness, Mickey lost ownership of her home. With no house or assets left to her name, she is now determined to find a way to downsize into an affordable living space.
