Annual 4-H Fun Fest introduces area youth to project ideas
By Marianne Austin The Beacon
The annual 4-H Fun Fest was held at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds on April 6. The event helps interested youth learn more about what projects and activities are available with local 4-H clubs and how to join a club that fits their interests.
4-H educator Jenny Strickler said,“ We have lots of projects displayed by members that have taken them in the last few years. They are getting to see some of the different projects that kids can do in 4-H, and there are lots of hands-on activities here today.”

are doing stuff you can do without one, like hand embroidery and knitting,” she said.“ By embellishing something that is already made, you can make it fancier. Kenzie Roach’ s Canal Days costume from last year was made from a dress they bought on Amazon. She cut some pieces of lace
out and glued them on the dress. The ruffles were rotary cut, and she surged the ends.
“ We are trying to broaden their horizons a little bit because there is so much more you can do. Chances are somebody’ s aunt or grandmother or cousin knows how to knit or knows how to sew and would be happy to show you. But I get more requests from adults to learn how to sew. We’ re going to have classes with Emily Marrison.”
4-H member Kami Seitz was showing kids how to make a paper fish with their hands.
Hattie Dreher tried cake decorating with Alice Whinnery, a member of Ridgerunners 4-H Club who went to the state fair for cake decorating.
“ I have always liked baking and decorating, and it’ s fun. There is always something to learn,” Whinnery said.
Jackie Woodward is the poultry representative for Coshocton County.

the process of expanding again because our poultry numbers are so large,” Woodward said.“ We are really excited about that, and we are looking for donations to help us with that expansion.
“ Poultry is the largest project out of all the animal projects. A lot of first-year members take the project because you can do it from your home and you don’ t need a lot of space or acreage.”
