CHANGING TRACKS
GIDEON KILPSTEIN
How often do you wonder if this is it? Are
you doing the things that make you
happy? Or are you not sure what makes
you happy at all? It is never too late to
figure it out, and you can always start
again.
In this article we interview Gideon
Klipstein and Jenneke van Genechten,
both former IMEM students, who
followed their own way to a successful
career.
It is 10am, and today we are interviewing
Gideon Klipstein. While it is morning
here in the Netherlands, Gideon is half-
way through his day already. He is
currently staying in Perth, Australia, for
his work. Gideon works as a Vice
President at Cost Engineering Consultan-
cy, a company that specializes in esti-
mating and controlling costs for major
technical projects.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?
“Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, is
where our headquarters are situated
but we operate worldwide.
The company is specialized in the
budgeting and mastering of costs of
big companies, for example Shell.”
“Here in Perth, there are a lot of
companies who operate in the mining
industry. What our company offers fits
perfectly with the needs of the mining
industry. Currently, I’m investigating if it
is possible for our company to set up a
business in Australia. This means that I
would go to Australia for about 3 years
to run the start of the new business.”
WHY DID YOU START IMEM?
13
“I started IMEM because I wanted to work in the dance industry. That is also
the industry in which I did my first internship. However, the company was
not professional which made me think about what I really wanted to do. At
that time, I worked at Holland Casino where I did my graduation internship.
I found out that I enjoyed meeting with clients to realize their requests, so I
decided after graduating that I wanted to work in commerce.“
