William Bograkos, DO ‘85, and Matthew Kilroe, COM ’22, recently presented a lecture at the New Hampshire Osteopathic Summer Symposium. Dr. Bograkos discussed narco-terrorism and the international scope of the opioid epidemic. Student Doctor Kilroe spoke about the utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a public health tool in analyzing the current situation, trends and resource deployment in the opioid epidemic.

The presentation stressed the human cost of the opioid epidemic, and the need for a common language in the efficient coordination of healthcare, law enforcement, military, and private organizations. This lecture originated from a joint research project between the World Association for Disaster & Emergency Medicine (WADEM) and Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (AMOPS) clubs at UNE COM that focused on the opioid crisis in Maine.
