Artificial Intelligence: Good or Bad?

Artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is a rapidly growing concept which has been around for a long time contrary to common belief. The groundwork for AI began in the early 1900s. There wasn’ t a significant progress made until the 1950s. We couldn’ t have been where we are right now if it hadn’ t been for the previous works of experts. In our day and age, AI is advancing remarkably and leaving impact on our daily lives. However, the most important question about AI is whether it is beneficial to our society or not. Advantages AI provides for us will be listed in bullet points in the following paragraphs.
• Analysing data and decreasing the possibility for any possible errors: AI is considerably a practical tool to decrease the number of errors being made. Robotic surgery systems can be a good example on this matter. They can perform surgeries successfully and steadily.
• Decision making: AI can escalate decision making progress by utilizing data and identifying patterns and trends. It helps doctors to diagnose by the help of X-rays and MRI.
• Eliminating risks: AI might be used as a tool to avert risky situations such as bomb diffusions, space travel, and exploring the depths.
Drawbacks of AI in our society will be discussed in the following items:
• Killing creativity: AI can’ t mimic the creativity we humans have. On the other hand, it can generate music, images, videos and so on. Relying on AI for solutions, new ideas, and even daily life, troubles can easily diminish our capacity to think and create while sparing us the time we searched for. Being a short cut for our questions is a rather dangerous concept since it hinders us from thinking. Last but not least, AI encourages laziness in humans.
• Job displacement: The rising of AI and technologies might cause many people to lose their jobs. Some jobs in several areas have been already displaced by simple coding; thus, leaving some people unemployed.
In conclusion, artificial intelligence has various benefits as well as drawbacks. It would be almost impossible to decide which one outweighs the other. It remains a mystery for us to explore more in the future.
