THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 21 May 2020 Charbonneau Women’s Golf Association By CATHI MCLAIN The CWGA’s ‘new normal’ looks a bit different I t’s May, when our normal golf season, luncheons, scrambles and weekly games awarding prize money should be well un- derway. We should be welcoming back the snowbirds from their desert homes and enjoying getting together again with the friends we’ve missed over the winter. Unfortunately, we’re in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are living with a “new normal.” State-mandated restrictions have forced the cancelation of all our activi- ties except golf through the first two weeks of May, including the May 7 scramble, general meeting and lun- cheon. We will continue to notify members via email of any changes and easing of restrictions. While we have retained our Thurs- day block of tee times, members need to contact the Pro Shop to reserve a spot. Cards will not be exchanged, and we will continue to post on our own, using the rules provided below. There will be no eclectic cards or posting eclectic scores until we return to regu- lar Days Play. Those of us who have played in April, when this was writ- ten, were able to enjoy convivial rounds of golf with our CWGA friends, and still maintain necessary social distancing. Some have enjoyed a post-round lunch from The Turn, sit- ting outside in a large circle, with 6 feet between each chair, and no tables. Kudos to the Charbonneau Golf Club staff, who have set up the Pro Shop and the course to ensure our safety — and theirs. We are truly blessed to have this golf course and the ability to get outside with friends and family, even though we have to keep our dis- tance to stay safe and healthy. With all the restrictions, it’s going to be a very different Mother’s Day this year. A day usually reserved for getting together with the grandchil- dren or other family, will require us to be together on the phone or on the computer and enjoy only virtual hugs. I’m reminded of the days when my children were young, and I got to sleep in while they helped John pre- pare and serve me breakfast in bed. Some years later, Mother’s Day was a day for us to play golf with our son and daughter and enjoy a nice meal at the “19th hole.” I always noticed that most of the other foursomes were dads with their kids, giving mom a break. I suspect this year, with every- one housebound, the golf course might be a place that even non-golfing moms will want to be out and about with their families. Our CWGA president, Joann Linville, wishes all the moms “a very different, but still loving day.” CWGA members will post scores for all Days Play events Players will keep their own scores and post using the GHIN app or at home online. The new app posts hole- by-hole, rather than just totals, and does the math for you. No posting is allowed on the clubroom computer. If you need help posting, contact Diane Meyers at 503-705-3920. Due to the changes made in the golf course as a result of the COVID-19 re- strictions, all scores posted will be “Most Likely Score” in accordance with USGA guidelines. In order to de- termine your Most Likely Score, play- ers will count all strokes taken on the hole to reach the green and add strokes as follows once on the green: Q If the chip or first putt hits the raised cup liner, count that as one stroke and pick up. Q Otherwise, continue to putt until the ball is within 5 feet of the cup, counting all putts. Q Once the ball is within 5 feet of the hole, add one stroke and pick up. Q Players do not need to hit the cup liner to be considered holed out. If you have questions, contact Suzanne Hatton, Rules Committee chair. ? pr Want to ent v e r u o y mote o ! p l e h n a c We once t n e v e ur Post yo ted on s i l t i e and se sites. t n e v e r rs in 40 othe l custome f po tentia forms. ousands o event plat n • Target th o d n a s gine ail with search en port by em king. e r t n e v e rac ailed and click t • Get a det s ic t ly a n a al site referr 00+ gainst 3,5 a d e p p a t m • Your even nt listing sites. ve targeted e /events dia.com igitalme d pamplin powered by
