THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 9 March 2020 Charbonneau Book Club By DOROTHY HOCHHALTER Two new books on the table for March The month of March brings us two different types of reads. On March 10 we wil discuss Dan- iel Silva’s latest, very current HOCHHALTER thriller “The New Girl.” Silva is one of my favorite authors and this is one in his series that stars spy and art restorer Gabriel Allon. Allon, chief of Israeli intelligence, joins Saudi Prince Khalid in a search for Khalid’s kidnapped daughter. We are treated to twists and turns in the plot and thrilling foreign intrigue and suspense. Be ready for a page-turner that will al- so educate you in the politics of the Middle Eastern countries. Please feel free to attend our meeting March 10 and join in the discussion. Our next book is a memoir of sorts. Journalist Anu Partanen was given the task of writing a short online arti- cle related to technology. Her re- search resulted in this book that com- pares her views of life in her home- land Finland with the life she was liv- ing in the United States. She blends facts with her actual experiences. The main differences are child care, health care, education and elder care. Par- tanen fell in love with an American and now lives in the U.S. So, March 24, I expect a facinating conversation about “The Nordic Theory of Every- thing.” We meet at the Charbonneau Coun- try Club from 1-2:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Everyone gets a chance to express their views in a relaxed atmosphere. Please send me an email or call 503- 694-5651 if you have questions.
