8 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER Charbonneau Men’s Club By JOHN MCLAIN Almost time for new season “The more I practice, the luckier I get.” — GARY PLAYER Gary Player is a good role mod- el. He worked MCLAIN hard at staying fit. He practiced until he had ev- ery shot perfected. Then he went out and played some great golf for a very long time. Sometimes I get caught up in playing a lot of golf and find myself frustrated that I’m not getting any better than the last time I was on the course. Then I re- member that great year I had, win- ning many events, dropping my handicap by seven strokes in one season and winning the match play championship. It was followed by a couple of years of no improvement and I now seem stuck at the same handicap as last year. Then, I re- membered what was different be- tween that great year and the past few years; I have been playing more and practicing less. Perhaps I can increase my luck this year, by tak- ing a few more lessons from Cory at the Pro Shop and spending a lot more time practicing with all my Matt Harris March 2020 clubs at the driving, pitching and putting areas. No more trying to ad- just and fix my swing and technique while I’m playing a round of golf. If you want to improve, and get lucki- er too, then practice at least two hours for every one hour spent playing on the course. Golf tips It’s the time of year when the grass is starting to grow and we may be playing more golf. Also, the posting of scores begins March 1. This year the USGA and OGA are using the new World Handicap System (WHS) to maintain our handicaps. This is a new worldwide program for all golfers. While there are several changes from the previous USGA system, we as golfers will only need to learn a couple new things. Scores can be posted using the new GHIN Mobile App on your smart phone. It is really best to post every score hole-by-hole rather than by total. For club games check to see if the Com- mittee will be posting scores the day. 1) Use your name and GHIN num- ber when you post. The app should re- member this for you. 2) Post your score the day you play. Your course index will be recalculated overnight. 3) Make sure you look at the OGA email each month and the “Rule of the Month” for further information. Learn more about the WHS and the Rules of Golf at the workshop here at Charbonneau on March 21. Men’s Club Board The Charbonneau Men’s Club now has 182 active members. This will like- ly increase as we near the beginning of our golf season in April. The Board has been busy and is near completion of the golf schedule and games for both the 18-hole play days and the 9-hole play days. Caterers have been scheduled for the major events. Rules and policies are being reviewed and updated. More people are being trained on Golf Genius software to do the scoring of game day events. Ev- erything will be finalized soon so we can print the Member Directory to be passed out at the Kick-off Breakfast in April. Work has also begun on getting ready for the Invitational Tourna- ment. June 20: The Board added an addi- tional educational event, Advances in Golf Equipment. Chris Bensel will lead a group of experts in discussing the newest golf equipment and golf ball technology. Charbonneau directory changes Spring is almost here and it is time for the CCC office staff to be- gin updating the Charbonneau res- ident’s directory. This booklet is not just a resident directory. It also contains helpful information about Charbonneau businesses, home- owner associations, architectural control policies and much more. For those who are already list- ed, please check to make sure the information in the lavender- colored 2019 directory is current. The directory information in- cludes resident phone numbers and it is possible that this infor- mation may have changed. The deadline for making changes is May 20, which is the date of the CCC annual meeting. If you have recently moved to Charbonneau, be sure to contact the CCC office staff at 503-694- 2300 or Office@Charbonneau- CountryClub.com and let them know how you would like to be listed in the directory. The direc- tory will be printed and delivered by the post office exclusively to Charbonneau addresses some- time in June. edwardjones.com Member SIPC Financial Advisor 8995 SW Miley Rd Suite 107 Wilsonville, OR 97070 503-694-1157 David Riener Broker 971.263.3735 [email protected] 255 SW 1st Avenue (99E) Canby, OR 97013 Office: 503.266.4747 Each office Independently Owned and Operated Zach Riener Broker 971.275.2705 [email protected]
