THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 11 November 2019 Library Foundation to host wine tasting event T he Wilsonville Public Li- brary Foundation will host its fourth annual wine tast- ing fundraiser, “A Toast to Imagination” on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Wilsonville Public Library, 8200 Wilsonville Road. A Toast to Imagination attracts new wineries each year, showcasing the bold and textured flavors from winer- ies in the Willamette Valley. This year, the event will feature seven local win- eries: Archer Vineyards, Campbell Lane Winery, Carlton Cellars, Sineann Winery, Tumwater Vineyards, Twill Cellars and Zerba Cellars. This event serves as one of the foun- dation’s top fundraising endeavors, al- lowing the foundation to make key in- vestments in a broad array of programs and services that span across age, demographics, and interests. The foundation, established in 1998 initially was created to support the li- brary’s largest expansion, raising around $250,000 over a span of three years. The expansion brought the li- brary over 20,000 additional square feet of space to allow for more access to re- sources, programs, and to elevate the library into what is now seen as Wil- sonville’s community hub. Since 2002, Wilsonville’s population increased by over 25%. The initial investment in the library’s interior allowed for increased use of the library, and since 2002 check- outs have increased 23 percent and programming attendance has in- creased 76 percent. Since the expan- sion, the foundation has continued with a new purpose, to spark, nourish, and foster the joy of reading in Wilsonville residents of all ages. Over the last 10-years, the founda- tion has made over $100,000 of invest- ments in programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL), Science Adventure, School Family Nights, His- tory Pub, community outreach, Heri- tage Collection, adult classes, and ma- ny others. DPIL, one of the top pro- grams offered by the library offers one free, high-quality, age-appropriate book per month to children from birth to age five. This program has reached more than 2,500 Wilsonville children and families in the past seven years, delivering over 57,000 books to their doors. Nearly 800 children are current- ly enrolled in the program. “We are so pleased to see the foun- dation really blossom into something that fosters a community’s interest in learning. The programs the library is able to offer through the support of the foundation make the library a commu- nity hub. Programs create an equal playing field for Wilsonville residents, where regardless of socio-economic status, age, or demographics, residents are able to join together for opportuni- ties to learn, experience art and cul- ture, and gain access to resources. I’m proud of the impact the foundation has on our community,” Foundation Board President Caroline Berry. Tickets can be purchased on the Wil- sonville Public Library Foundation webpage wplf.org, or at the Wilsonville Public Library. Early bird pricing is available for tickets purchased prior to October 25. — Wilsonville Library Foundation To learn more about the event, and to support the foundation’s work, visit wplf.org or contact Pat Duke, library director at 503-570-1590 or Duke@Wil- sonvilleLibrary.org.
