You may be a fine performer when your skies are bright and blue But disaster is the acid that shall prove the worth of you; So just meet your disappointments with a cheery sort of grin, For the golfer who keeps their tem- per is the golfer that’s sure to win. ~EDGAR ALBERT GUEST Our membership has been increas- ing over the past few years; now over 250 members. The average handicap for our membership is about 20, compared to the national average of about 15. About 26% of our members have a handicap less than 15. Our reputation as MCLAIN a welcoming and re- spectful club attracts new members which helps to keep our total membership at a healthy level. November 2019 ■ A members directory was again printed and distributed at the begin- ning of the season in April. Feedback from members is that this is an impor- tant document produced by the Board to help members network and make plans for playing golf. All of the directo- ry information is updated regularly on the website. ■ The ongoing development of web- site and email continued to improve the information services to our mem- bers. Work started in 2017-2018 was initially by Paul Newman and Mike Lu- cich, and more recently in 2018-2019 by John McLain. There are 44% of members who indicated a preference that includes playing in 9-hole events: — 21% of our club members who prefer 9 holes only — 23% prefer 9 or 18 — 56% prefer 18 holes only ■ The invitational tournament was considered a success under the leader- ship of Mike Brown, Denny Barton and John Meyers, who managed teams of volunteers, along with the assistance of the CWGA army of volunteers in their bright red shirts. Chris Bensel and his staff are to be commended for their incredible expertise in running a nearly flawless event.
