If you are doing flat work like
boxes or guitars
•

Let it cool in the water

Wax it

Sticker (allow air to pass
through both sides of the
wood) it and put weight on
it so it will not move as it
dries.

Boil it for 3 hours
When it is dry, create your
art work and then seal with
your finish.
These steps may seem like a lot of
work but with Madrone it is well

worth the effort. Madrone in my opinion is one of
the prettiest woods on the planet. It is even used
for high end flooring.
"
Now if you have gone through the process and
the Madrone still cracks, what then? Some
Madrone refuses to be tamed. So you are sitting
with a cracked block of Madrone. Let it dry
completely. You have 2 options.
One is turn it or cut the block in to your flats and
see the cracks as a part of the art piece.
Two if you have seen casting done. It is a
fascinating process. Casting (epoxy) fills all the
cracks with the color you choose. We will have
an article on casting next issue so stay tuned.
