The Treasure from Sunnmøre

A couple of months ago July the 6th 3 sports divers found 57 000 coins at the bottom of the ocean right with the island Runde outside of Sunnmøre. 6624 of those coins were gold and the others were silver. The treasure belonged to the Dutch cargo ship Akerendam. The ship was on its maiden voyage until it sank on March 8 1725. 200 men died.

This finding is one of the biggest hoards in Europe’s history. The value of the hole found is

around 40 million Norwegian kroner. Because the 3 sports divers, Bengt-Olof Gustafsson, Stefan Persson and Eystein Krohn-Dale found this huge treasure, they got 75% of the value. That is 30 million kroner. The rest went to the government and to The Netherlands who got 15 and 10% each.

I got an Interview with one of the divers to ask him some questions and hear what he thinks about this huge found.
