Materials for technical use: Plastics
4 (200 min)
In previous lessons, teacher explained about plastics: what a plastic is, properties of plastic
materials, type of plastics and their application, main techniques for making plastic objects…
In previous lessons, teacher explained the phases of the technological process.
Now, students should make a project about plastics following the Technological Process.
Check students knowledge about plastic materials, following the phases of the Technological
Process.
a. Find information about plastic objects and try to sum up and prepare a writing and a
speaking while their class mate listening to others and then, they ask and answer questions.
b. Work in pairs and practice reading, writing, listening and speaking in English.

Steps
Students should find information about at least six types of plastics objects.
They should sum up all this information: Name of the object and use, type of plastic,
group of plastic (thermoplastic, thermostable plastic or elastomer), main properties
of this plastic and manufacturing technique used.
Students work in pairs.
They make a Powerpoint presentation with the main information found it.
Finally, they prepare an speaking presentation.
Medium
1 In previous lessons, teacher explained about plastic materials: types, properties,
manufacturing techniques.
2 In previous lessons, teacher explained about the phases of the Technological Process used it
in Technology.
3 Now, students should follow the Technological process for making a project about plastics:
1 Stage: Proposal and conditions (15 min)
Proposal: “Make a Powerpoint presentation with at least six plastic’s objects”
Conditions:
It should have a title with large letters “TYPES OF PLASTICS”
It should indicate this information about each object:
o Name of the object
o Type of plastic and group of plastic: thermoplastic, thermostable
plastic or elastomer
o Properties of each plastic
o Formation techniques: extrusion, lamination, vacuum forming,
moulding,….
o Uses of that plastic object
2 Stage: Find information (35 min)
Students should find information in different sources, so they can use their book
(Technologies II CLIL by Oxford), Internet (different website about materials…), etc. They
should write down all the information in their notebooks.
3 Stage: Design the Powerpoint (10 min)
