Gail Wessling Timonera
of Florida, and formerly of
Batesville, reunited with her
Oldenburg Academy class-
mate, Susan Gigrich Dreyer,
for a ten-day pilgrimage to the
Holy Land, including Haifa,
Tiberias, Nazareth, Bethlehem
and Jerusalem. Joining them
were their mothers, Betty
Gigrich and Elaine Wessling,
both of Batesville.
The trip was spiritually led
by Fr. Daniel Houde. Gail
and her mother embarked
upon the pilgrimage in mem-
ory of her aunt, and Elaine’s
sister-in-law, the late Marie
Wessling.
The tourists were both
grateful and blessed for hav-
ing powerful spiritual experi-
ences. They enjoyed some
personal time for exploration
as Elaine reported that Betty
rode a camel. All returned
safely to the U.S. with much
to be thankful for.
As 2018 draws to a close,
I leave my readers with this
message: May peace be your
blessing at Christmas – and in
the New Year too!
That’s Sue’s news for now!
Tis the season to be jolly!
We had an invasion of trick-
or-treaters on Parkside the
Friday after Halloween night.
With it raining on Hallow-
een, lots of kids were taking
advantage of going out twice.
I saw cars from Ohio and
Kentucky. Several Greendale
residences had fire pits in
their front yard for Hallow-
een. My husband had his own
fire pit on our gas stove roast-
ing marshmallows. I think we
need a fire pit next year.
Veterans Day has passed,
but I need to acknowledge a
letter sent to me from a class-
mate, Jerry Williams. The
University of Cincinnati was
host to the US Naval Acad-
emy football team on Nov. 3.
After the national anthem, a
fly-over took place above the
stadium by three Navy jets

Our family had a great
Thanksgiving celebration at
At The Barn Winery this year.
We had a surprise visit from
Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus
with treats for all of the little
ones. We all enjoyed a deli-
cious meal with lots of great
desserts. The day was filled
with fellowship and thankful-
ness.
Now we must prepare for
our favorite holiday, Christ-
mas. We have been getting
ready since Thanksgiving,
but I still have lots to do to be
completely prepared for the
big day. Still, all of the effort
is worth it when you see those
fighters, the FA-18 Hornets
jet fighters, led by Lieuten-
ant Commander Brad
Williams, Jerry’s grandson.
Brad graduated from the U.S.
Naval Academy in 2006 and
has been deployed three times
to the Gulf Area. He resides
with his wife Melissa along
with their four children and is
stationed at the Oceans Naval
Air Station in Virginia Beach,
Virginia. Jerry is one proud
grandfather.
Condolences go out to the
Rosemary Huber family on
her passing Nov. 10. Rose-
mary was a member of St
Lawrence Church and The
National Catholic Society of
Foresters.
You still have time to take a
trip to the Kentucky Creation
Museum and experience their
live Nativity Scene and all
of their lights. Their nativity
scene is the true meaning of
Christmas.
Happy Birthday on Jan. 22
to Jennifer Honnert. Jennifer
is young at heart.
Thank you to all of you who
read my column. Have a won-
derful Christmas and a Happy
New Year.
little great-grandchildren hav-
ing so much fun and enjoying
everything. That makes it all
worthwhile.
Special holidays do bring
back many memories This
year we will all miss Grandpa
Ernie. I will also miss my sis-
ter Joyce. But we were very
blessed to have had them in
our lives. So we must keep on
working and be ready for the
holiday.
I have to take time out to
watch my favorite TV show,
Jack Hanna’s Wild Animal
Show. Watching all those wild
animals get rescued and how
they live in the wild is inter-
esting. Something is always
presented about unusual
animals.
I found this poem written
by E. A. Eschenbach and am
passing it on to you.
“The Inner Beauty”
When I was young and fair
of face,
And all my curves were all
in the right place.
Often I would gaze with
pride on what my mirror
showed outside.
That was many years ago;
time robbed me of that youth-
ful glow.
Put lines and wrinkles on my
face,
And my figure lost its charm
and grace.
Now it’s anything but fun to
gaze on what the years have
done.
One day when I was feeling
sad over losing beauty I once
had,
A little voice inside me said
“How vain and stupid can you
be?
Why the beauty for which
you weep,
Remember dear, was just
skin deep.
There is a beauty that time
can’t hide,
And that’s the kind that
grows inside.
Though time may make you
look like sin,
If you are beautiful within,
That beauty will live on and
on as long as you are here “.
A merry December Birth-
day in our family to Sheila
and Jack and to all others
celebrating in December.
Have a great, Merry Christ-
mas Holiday, and remember
to take time for worship. I
also wish everyone a Happy
New Year.
