T
he Bankruptcy Section held its annual Fall Social on
Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Shout Restaurant in
Colony Square. Almost 60 members of the Section
enjoyed the kick-off of fall and the many projects for the
coming months. Along with existing activities like CARE
and the Reaffirmation Project, the Section will begin the Low
Income Creditor Assistance Project (LICAP). The goal of the
LICAP is to provide low income judgment creditors with free
legal assistance in bankruptcy cases. LICAP will partner
with the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (ALVF) and
maintain a database of volunteer lawyers for this exciting
new pro bono opportunity. To learn more about LICAP,
please contact Alison Elko Franklin at
[email protected].
For the 2014-2015 year, the officers and board members of
the Bankruptcy Section include:
Nancy J. Whaley (Chair), John W. Mills, III (Vice Chair/Chair
Elect), Ron C. Bingham, II (Secretary), Alison Elko Franklin
(Treasurer), John A. Thomson, Jr. (Immediate Past Chair),
Brett J. Berlin, B. Summer Chandler, Jeffrey W. Cavender,
Melissa Davey, Sage M. Sigler, Howard P. Slomka and M.
Regina Thomas (Members at Large).
If you have ideas or suggestions for Bankruptcy Section
activities or projects, please feel free to contact any of the
officers or board members. We look forward to a great year
and welcome your participation.
The Section is busy planning several breakfast programs and
a new Adversary Proceeding pro bono project. See future
