t
he Elder Law Section will be wrapping up its year with
the last breakfast meeting scheduled for May 15, 2013,
at 7:30 a.m. at the Buckhead Club. Long Term Care
Insurance Specialist Eric Burkard, CLTC, will be presenting
on the Ins and Outs of Long Term Care Insurance. We look
forward to learning more about this evolving area.
It has been a busy year for the section, and we are already
looking forward to kicking back into gear this fall. This
year, we enjoyed speakers on topics ranging from financial
planning for baby boomers, fair debt collection and seniors,
law practice management, Veterans Administration Aid and
Attendance benefits, lessons from a career in elder law in
estate planning, Medicaid and the Department of Community
Health, and most recently, the Affordable Care Act.
The section also introduced a community service project,
a pro bono project, and brought two sponsors aboard. We
are extremely grateful for the support from our sponsors,
LivHome and Assisted Living Locators, and hope that these
relationships will continue long into the future. Through our
community service project, we were able to help support the
Be A Santa to a Senior program of Home Instead Senior Care
by providing holiday gifts to a number of needy seniors in
the metro Atlanta area. Also, our ongoing pro bono project
has involved enlisting volunteers to help Atlanta Legal
Aid's Georgia Senior Legal Hotline clients complete power
of attorney and advance directive forms furnished by the
Hotline.
