Memories from past presidents : w . Stell Huie president , 1968-1969
During my term as President we were concerned that the American Bar Association was going to move the threshold for representation by local bars in the House of Delegates from 1,000 to 1,500 . So we had a big membership push . Our annual meetings needed a boost and I got Senator Edward Kennedy to be our speaker . Over 1,000 members attended . It was the first speech he had made since his brother was killed in Dallas and one of the last he made before the Chappaquiddick incident just a few months later .
Jack spalding Schroder , jr . President , 1982-1983
During my term , we kicked off the organized fundraising drive for Atlanta Legal Aid , increasing donations exponentially over the following decades .
