During my term as President , several things stood out , including winning the Harrison Tweed award piggybacking on our former President Frank Strickland for committing the Atlanta Bar to representing Cuban detainees housed in the Federal Penitentiary . We established the Sole Practitioner / Small Firm Section of the Atlanta Bar , committed to issues surrounding the business of the practice of law . I appointed Jackson Bedford to lead this effort who became the Section ' s first Chair . We also hired the first full-time CLE coordinator , Mary Lynne Johnson .
Terrence Lee Croft president , 1993-1994
During my term as President , we started the Student Law Intern Program , known as SLIP - the originally titled “ Student ” SLIP program is now known as " Summer ." Under the leadership of S . Wade Malone from then until now , SLIP has introduced nearly 1,000 high school students to the practice of law in law firms , agencies , courts and legal departments in metro Atlanta . SLIP graduates have gone on to college , law school , and become lawyers , district attorneys and even judges .
T . Jackson Bedford president , 1994-1995
During my year as President two things stand out most to me , among many others : In the spring of 1994 , shortly after I took office , there were massive floods in South Georgia . The floods were so bad that coffins were coming out of the ground . In order to assist in flood reflief , the Atlanta Bar sent several bus loads of lawyers who volunteered to help in the cleanup and recovery process . Also , during my year the Board of Trustees for CLE programs was created , which was the foundation for our continued excellence in continuing legal education .

During my term as Atlanta Bar president , one item that stands out is the first “ Atlanta Bard ” show – “ A Courthouse Line .” The Atlanta Bar would then go on to produce multiple shows , raising six figures in charitable donations for various legal causes , funneled through the Atlanta Bar Foundation .

S . Wade Malone President , 2003-2004
During my term as President of the Atlanta Bar Association , I was proud that the Atlanta Bar Association started the 100 % Membership Club , which encouraged law firms and legal organizations to have 100 % of their attorneys as members of the Atlanta Bar Association thus demonstrating a commitment to the legal profession and community . The 100 % Membership Club had fortyfour ( 44 ) charter members . The Atlanta Bar Association had a record high membership of 6,341 paid members . I was also proud that the Atlanta Bar Association Summer Law Internship Program for High School Students , founded in 1993 and which continues in 2023 , was conducted for the eleventh straight year in 2003 . Finally , during the 2003-2004 Bar year , Leaderships Awards were presented at sold out Leadership Luncheons to Judge Griffin Bell , Judge Charles Carnes , Dorothy Kirkley , Frank Strickland and Judge Horace Ward .

During my term , I used my knowledge as a bankruptcy lawyer to aid in restructuring organisations I lead . I think I may have been the first 5 year , long term plan and overall restructure with goal setting . We then met many of the goals .

During my term , there are two items that stand out for me . First , the rebranding of the Atlanta Bar Association as “ Lawyers Who Serve ,” which I think succinctly , but broadly provides our ethical ideals as an organization . Second , the establishment of the Atlanta Bar Association ’ s annual grant program , funded by the Lawyer Refferal Information & Service and the Atlanta Bar Foundation , which has now provided over $ 2 million to the Bar ’ s community service projects and various pro bono legal service providers across Atlanta .
