Finally, the stanza that caused so much discord. To corroborate to the fact that this song is not a version neither a translation, the first five lines don’t display any affinity whatsoever. Yet, the last line of the recreation appropriates two words from the original, an odd type of borrowing that, according to Paula Fernandes, was a tribute to Lady Gaga. Still, phonetically speaking, there was a whole arsenal of words that could have been used, one of them, ironically, is one of the meanings to “shallow”: “superficial”. Apart from this bizarre choice, “Juntos”, the song title and the first word of the last line in stanza four, was a fine choice both to the song title and to this part, proved in “we’re” and, maybe, other small similarity to the song theme.
In conclusion, considering that the song was specially written for the movie and its plot, at least in the beginning, it didn’t have anything to do with a romantic relationship, but with a criticism of the society’s shallowness towards celebrities and how fame can make stars struggle psychologically, the song’s recreation could be a lot better. To reduce such criticism into a cliché love story and to take what obviously were hours of creative work and make it in just one night is foolish not to say disrespectful. Even though the movie’s main characters start to get closer to each other and SPOILER ALERT their relation turns into a real romantic relationship, Paula Fernandes’ song didn’t portray the love story told in the movie, not by far.
