• After signing a baseball contract as a pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies , was sent to Terre Haute and played two seasons
• Went on to Wilmington of Class B Interstate League in 1951 . Unhappy with progress , had tryout with Philadelphia
Warriors in 1951 and played nine NBA seasons .
• Led the NBA in scoring from the 1953 season through the 1955 season
• Inducted into Philadelphia and Pennsylvania sports halls of fame as well as the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame
Duane Klueh
• Enrolled in Indiana State Teachers College after returning from WWII
• Played three seasons , two under John Wooden and the other under John Longfellow
• Drafted in the eighth round of 1949 NBA draft by Boston Celtics and played two seasons in NBA for the Denver Nuggets and the Fort Wayne Pistons
• Coached 12 seasons at Indiana State University from 1955 to 1967 and retired as the winningest coach in ISU history with a record of 182-22
• Four time Coach of the Year in Indiana Collegiate Conference
Bobby “ Slick ” Leonard
• Terre Haute native graduated from Gerstmeyer High School in 1950
• As a junior at Indiana University led team to 1953 NCAA tournament championship game and hit game winning free throw

John McNichols
• Coached track and field and cross country at Indiana State University for 34 years
• Longest tenured coach of any sport at ISU
• Guided the Sycamores to 38 total Missouri Valley Conference team championships with 11 in cross country , 10 in indoor track and 17 in outdoor track
• Oversaw the construction and development of the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course considered one of the best in the nation
• Indiana State University Athletics Hall of Fame
Tony McGee
• Terre Haute native graduating from Terre Haute South High School and was an All-State basketball and football player
• Attended Michigan on scholarship and caught 38 passes for 467 yards and six touchdowns in his senior year in 1992 and played in the 1993 Rose Bowl against Washington as a tight end
• Drafted in second round of NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals playing 11 seasons in Cincinnati , Dallas and New York
Mordecai “ Three Finger ” Brown
• Led Terre Haute Tots to Three-I League title in 1901
• Helped to lead Chicago Cubs to four National League titles and two World Series crowns
• Career record 239-130 and 2.06 ERA
• Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1949
Art Nehf
• Terre Haute native graduating from Wiley High School in 1910
• Attended Rose Polytechnic and graduated in 1915 and holds record in football for longest run from scrimmage ( 99 yards )
• Pitched 15 seasons in majors for four different teams
• Retired with record of 184-120 and a 3.20 ERA
• Was only one of two pitchers in history to have three hits in a World Series Game
• Inducted into Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989
