THE GRASSES
The grasslands are filled, as implied with many different types of grasses. These grasses are tough, and can survive fairly dry conditions year-round. They go dormant in winter, and in some areas, are burned yearly so they can regrow. This also helps keep the soil fertile in rocky areas. Different types are distributed throughout different areas. A few of the many types of grasses are purple needlegrass, blue grama, and buffalo grass.
FLOWERS
In the temperate grasslands of the US, Many different species of beautiful flowers grow in the spring and summer. some of these are native species, others (such as weeds) are less common depending on of the thickness of the grass. As with the grasses, different types of flowers grow in different places. For instance, some native flowers in Kansas are not found in Missouri. Species include asters, blazing stars, coneflowers, goldenrods ,and sunflowers.
