SHRUBS AND TREES:

In the grasslands, people geerally do not think about the numerous species of trees and shrubs that grow. In fact, there are over 50 different kinds of trees and shrubs growing in th grasslands of the Midwestern United States. Small nonwoody shrubs can grow without much rainfall, but a major drought will cause many of them to die. Not many trees grow in the middle of grasslands, and they are generally found in clusters of four or more. Cottonwoods, oaks, and willows grow neaqr some bodies of water, and cottonwoods may be found anywhere in the plains.

This is a map of the Midwestern United States in the Great Plains, showing which certain type of grass grows.
