MAMMALS
The range of types of mammals in the grassland biome varies greatly. in some temperate grasslands, such as North America, have mammals such as prairie dogs, jack rabbits, deer, mice, and coyotes. In other grasslands, like Africa, contain other mammals, such as gazelles, zebras, rhinoceroses, wild horses, and lions. In North America, the large herds of bison have been almost completely been wiped out, due to most settlers using them for meat. Many smaller mammals have adapted to life in the grasslands by having front paws specializing in digging burrows for shelter.
BIRDS: There are quite a few different species of birds. In most grasslands there are a diverse number of birds, including blackbirds, grouses, meadowlarks, quails, sparrows, and hawks. Carnivorous birds use thein flying ability to spot smaller mammals that are hiding in taller grasses. Smaller birds make thier nests in the taller grasses, or sometimes, even on top of fence posts. They are forced out of their homes while burning occurs, but the new grass ends up being a better environment for them.
