CLIMATE

The Climate in the Temperate grasslands is moderate. However, summer and winter temperatures range from very cold and snowy in the winter, to hot and dry in the summer. There is occasionally a seasonal drought, and in some grasslands, an occassional fire. This is vital to keep the soil fertile. Rain occurs generally in the Spring, and early summer. After a period of only occassional rain in mid-to-late summer, precipitation returns in the autumn. Total rainfall is generally around 30 inches of rain per year.

I:The Amount of rainfall actually depends on how tall the Grass is.

II:They are found in many different parts of the world and go by different names: prairie, pampas, steppe, outback, highveld, and campo.

III: Some flowers have adapted to stay alive longer in the winter with underground storage organs and thick stems.

IV: No other biome is as useful for farming as the temperate grassland. Its fertile soil makes it very suitable for growing crops.
