Connected – head of engineering centre of excellence Dave Morris, pictured here collecting the Communities and Reputation Award, says Sembcorp’ s vision is to do good and help build a sustainable future.
We are not simply growing a business; we are working to drive a just and balanced energy transition, support communities and deliver long-term value.”
Saying she’ s motivated to continue building on her experience so far, Bryony added:“ I’ m keen to take on new challenges, contribute further to the industry and support continuous improvement within my role.
“ Looking ahead, I remain very ambitious. I’ d like to continue growing within my current environment and ultimately progress into a senior leadership role within the procurement team, where I can lead, inspire others and support their development.”
Reacting to his award, Michael said:“ To be recognised by NEPIC at this stage in my career motivates me to continue developing and contributing to both Sembcorp and the wider industry.
“ I plan to further my knowledge by completing a Master’ s degree, while continuing to build on my leadership experience.
“ I’ m keen to progress into more senior leadership roles, where I can have an even greater impact on the business, the team and the wider industry. This award has given me strong motivation to keep pushing forward and developing in that direction.”
Michael felt that attending the awards was a valuable experience in itself. He said:“ The Sembcorp team had an excellent evening, connecting with peers and discussing both recent and upcoming challenges.”
A key player on Teesside for many years, Sembcorp is no stranger to awards success, with its Training and Apprenticeships category win at the 2024 Tees Business Awards among many plaudits to come its way.
And for a company that has always prided itself on being part of the community, picking up the Communities & Reputation award – given to the company that best illustrates a commitment to meaningful change and being a genuine force for good – was an official endorsement of its enlightened approach.
From volunteering with local schemes to installing £ 24,000 worth of solar panels at Grangetown Hub and donating 25 bags of pre-loved toys to local families, Sembcorp staff pride themselves on getting involved.
But Sembcorp stresses its community engagement isn’ t a series of isolated actions – it’ s a strategic, long-term commitment, shaped by sustainability, local partnerships and genuine care for the people living and working around the Wilton site.
With clear objectives, measurable outcomes and alignment with global sustainability goals, Sembcorp says its community work is driven by one core belief: that it exists to make a meaningful, lasting difference to local communities, socially, environmentally and economically.
Judges for the award clearly agreed, praising“ a responsible and caring company that provides a unique opportunity to positively impact communities and become an integral part of the local fabric”.
The award was also good news for South Bank Primary, with Sembcorp donating the £ 2,000 prize money to the Poplar Grove school.
The awards reflect Sembcorp’ s hard work over the past 12 months and have proved a real positive in what remain challenging trading conditions for the whole sector.
But while awards are welcome, Sembcorp’ s priorities remain to continue playing a pivotal role in shaping the UK’ s low-carbon future – and to be the best neighbour it can be.
Dave Morris, head of engineering centre of excellence, says:“ At Sembcorp, our vision is to‘ do good and play our part in building a sustainable future’. It is a purpose that underpins all our decisions and growth plans.
“ We are not simply growing a business; we are working to drive a just and balanced energy transition, support communities and deliver long-term value.”
