HAT-TRICK HEROES

Triple awards success for Sembcorp UK

WORDS: DAVE ROBSON

Sembcorp UK is celebrating success after two employees won prestigious Young Achiever awards at a celebration of the North-East’ s processing industries.

For Sembcorp, which also picked up an award for its community involvement, the hat-trick of prizes at the NEPIC Awards confirms its commitment to the region. It also highlights ongoing industrial excellence at its vast Wilton International site, where it is spearheading the move to net zero and continues to supply on-site customers with power, steam and utilities solutions.
In the Young Achiever category for employees aged under 35, Bryony Larsen and Michael Riseborough were both deserving winners at the Hardwick Hall event.
Bryony joined Sembcorp as a purchasing assistant in 2021. Since then, she’ s successfully completed her CIPS Level 4 qualification, was promoted to buyer in 2025 and now has ambitions to be a senior buyer and, ultimately, a procurement manager.
Michael’ s progression at Sembcorp has been similarly rapid. In November 2024, he was promoted to maintenance and outage manager, a senior role rarely held by someone so early in their career.
He now leads a department of more than 100 colleagues( 78 core team members and around 50 contractors) and is responsible for an annual budget of around £ 20m.
Reflecting on their awards success, both paid tribute to the environment at Sembcorp that has allowed them to develop their careers.
Bryony told Tees Business:“ Winning the award is a significant personal milestone for me. It reflects the hard work, commitment and passion I’ ve put into my role, and it’ s incredibly rewarding to have that recognised both within my organisation and at an industry level.
“ I’ m also very grateful to Sembcorp and my team for their support and collaboration, and to my manager for guidance and trust, which have been key to my development. This recognition feels like a reflection of that collective effort.”
