WINNER
ACHIEVE HOSPITALITY ( Middlesbrough )
A switch in focus after Covid helped drive a recruitment firm to become one of the region ’ s fastest-growing businesses .
Achieve Hospitality , which recruits for executive-level private households and luxury hospitality , won the Small Business Turnover VelociTees after seeing its revenues rocket .
Achieve is currently on target for a Y4 to Y5 turnover of more than £ 1m – more than double the previous 12 months .
But MD and co-founder Lewis Clenell admitted it was the pandemic , which temporarily closed down the hospitality sector overnight , that forced a change in direction .
Instead of luxury hospitality , Lewis and partner Molly Teasdale decided to focus on recruiting for the private household , yachting and ultra-high-networth markets – and it proved a masterstroke .
“ Covid completely redirected us , when hospitality was shut down ,” said Lewis . “ We redirected and now we ’ re the only agency out of London that supports the industries we do .
“ And we ’ re continuing to grow – we recently launched Achieve Professionals , which recruits legal and finance for family offices , and we ’ ll continue to grow our team here in Middlesbrough as well .”
Lewis said turnover is continually reinvested , helping keep Achieve at the top of its high-end game .
He added : “ We ’ ve got a really good local team , but we also have an international team that works for us . We cover global timescales and time zones too , so we ’ re always ‘ on ’.”
FINALIST
SOVEREIGN SUPPLY CHAIN SERVICES ( Middlesbrough )
A warehousing and distribution company , Sovereign Supply Chain Services mainly targets commercial customers – from e-commerce to chemical manufacturing and everything in between . Based at Riverside Park , its size and turnover growth has gone hand in hand with site expansion and a growing customer base , with consultation , managed distribution and bespoke commercial and private storage solutions among the services offered .
Turnover has increased through organic growth stemming from the quality of service this owner-operated business provides . And had its latest financial year not been reduced to nine months to bring the business in line with the personal tax period , a turnover of approximately £ 1.1m would have been recorded .
FINALIST
RADICAL FORGE ( Middlesbrough )
The winner of last year ’ s Turnover ( Small ) category thanks to its 257 per cent turnover increase in one year , video games gurus Radical Forge started out in 2017 and , seven years on , is working on its second original IP , having successfully launched its first , Bright Paw .
And thanks to significant financing from US game publisher Private Division for a new ( unannounced ) original IP , along with additional work-for-hire contracts and extension and expansion of existing projects , turnover continues to rise .
