How forward-thinking Teesside firm is advancing the government ’ s net zero policy
Renewable energy specialist Anelec continues to experience rising demand for its solar photovoltaic ( PV ) systems as both private and public sector organisations join the green revolution .
Since launching Anelec in 2015 , managing director Andrew Porritt and his team of highly qualified technicians have installed solar PV in the agricultural , commercial and industrial sectors across the region .
Andrew said : “ We are busy planning and delivering numerous projects to assist the net zero target across the region ’ s businesses , from heavy industrial high energy consumers to more standard commercial spaces .
“ We ’ re currently working with local councils as they try to reduce their carbon footprint , not only by installing solar panels , like our current project on the Zetland Car Park in Middlesbrough , but also by providing the general public with electric vehicle charge points throughout the local town centres and council buildings .”
The company recently secured its place on the NEPO framework – which sources procurement for North-East public sector organisations – for solar PV , LED lighting and commercial battery storage .
“ This is a testament to the company ’ s success over recent years , which includes installations for Cleveland Police and Middlesbrough Council ,” said Andrew .
Anelec ’ s driving ambition and ongoing development is also securing local jobs , including apprenticeship opportunities , which the company is currently processing .
Anelec apprentice Luke Atkinson said : “ I enjoy working for Anelec , each day is different , and the renewables side is really interesting . I ’ d definitely recommend people to do an apprenticeship , learning a skill like this will keep me in employment for a long time .”
Andrew adds : “ Our electrician and solar
PV technician Josh Watson and I went along to Hartlepool College to teach a class of level 3 electrical apprentices about the new regulations on solar and battery storage .
“ Giving something back is important to both Josh and me , having both got to where we are via the same route , with aspirations to secure permanent employment .”
News about the spiralling cost of traditional energy sources has dominated the headlines in recent months , and businesses throughout the country have been feeling the pinch – and the situation could get worse before it gets better .
But the good news is that Stokesleybased Anelec ’ s passion for reducing the carbon footprint through solar energy can also help companies reduce their bills .
“ We have planned , sourced and installed around 1.5MW of solar PV , which equates to more than 350 tonnes of carbon emissions saved throughout the region in 2022 , and we ’ re hoping to increase this again in 2023 ,” said Andrew .
“ Not only is the global environment benefiting from the decrease in energy consumption on Teesside , but companies are also seeing the rewards in their savings by using the latest battery storage technology to store generation and consume it on their site at peak grid tariff times .
“ This means they can import any extra electricity at lower tariff rates to be used or even charge up battery banks ready for

peak power demand .
“ We have the ability to design bespoke renewable systems in-house , from smaller solutions to large modular high-powered containerised systems , with the result of reducing carbon footprint and saving on running costs to businesses .”
