Over the Garden Wall is a mini series that aired on Cartoon Network November 4, 2014. The
creator, Patrick Mchale, decided to make this a show based off his previous works Tomb Of The
Unknown. Over The Garden Wall falls into the genre of Dark Fantasy, Adventure, and Drama. If
you seem to enjoy and love these genres in shows I suggest that Over The Garden Wall is
something you will enjoy!
Over The Garden Wall is about two half brothers, Wirt and Greg, who get lost in a strange
forest in search for their home. However during their journey they begin to notice things about
this forest that doesn’t seem normal. They meet a bluebird by the name of Beatrice who guides
and helps them on the journey after they do her a favor. Their journey that is Over The Garden
Wall.
Wirt is the main protagonist who sees the world in a serious way. He is a pessimistic
realist, but is also naive and childish at the same time. Wirt thinks of himself as an outcast and
thinks very negatively, but Greg seems to snap him out of it and brings out the joyful side of
Wirt.
Greg is the second main protagonist. Greg is optimistic compared to Wirt. He is very
happy and never seems concerned about the troubles of the forests. Greg has a free spirit
and views everything around him with light hearted innocence. Greg thinks if you set your mind
to it anything is possible. (such a cinnamon roll)
Beatrice is the third and final protagonist in the show. Beatrice was first a human but due
to a fateful incident involving bluebirds, Beatrice and the rest of her family became bluebirds
as punishment. Beatrice is a very clever and head-strong girl. She cares deeply about Wirt and
Greg so much that she is willing to risk her life for them.
Over The Garden Wall is unlike other cartoons, it’s dark yet has a cheerful touch to it, a
great combination of them both. The characters personalities made me instantly love them, the
plot is overall outstanding and full of mystery that leaves you on the edge of your seat, as well
as the vintage-old timey feel to it even though it’s in modern time. From the moment I saw all
those characteristics and details I knew I would enjoy and love it. Be prepared for shipping,
crying, and falling in love with the characters as I did. Welcome, to Over the Garden Wall.
