Looking for a show with mutinous comets, giant robot lions, evil purple aliens, and of course, shipping?
Well, you’ve (sadly) come to the right place. Voltron: Legendary Defender is a 2016 Dreamworks cartoon, aired on
Netflix on June 10. The entire first season consists of eleven episodes, each filled with some pretty cool stuff.
The main characters of the show are five individuals, Shiro, Keith, Lance, Pidge, and Hunk, who discover
that they are the Paladins of five giant robot lions that have the ability to form the universe’s most powerful
weapon, Voltron. With the help of alien princess Allura and her advisor, Coran, they learn how to form and fight as
Voltron, the only thing that can stop the powerful emperor Zarkon and his empire, the Galra.
Zarkon has been building his empire for ten-thousand years, capturing, enslaving, and killing many
planets. He had destroyed Allura’s home planet, Altea, searching for the Voltron lions that her father, Alfor, had
hidden. Nearly ten thousand years later, after being cryogenically frozen, the last two Alteans alive must train five
people to form the universe’s only hope.
Along with much action, there’s refreshing humor to come, too. Even with action and humor, you can’t
forget the mysteries. The entire Voltron fandom (including me) has questions on what’s to come in season two,
which is airing on January 20. There are also many theories on certain things, with solid evidence to back them up.
It’s pretty amazing how detailed this show really is. Voltron: Legendary Defender is able to appeal to all age
groups, from little kids to adults. Your parents might even know it, since Voltron is a reboot of an old 80’s cartoon
with the same name and plot. All in all, Voltron: Legendary Defender is a great cartoon, one that’s honestly too
hard to summarize in all its glory. It’s better enjoyed when binged on the weekend, with plenty of snacks and
tissues. (And as for shipping? Take a look at Keith and Lance.) I highly suggest this show, as it has all the elements
for an exciting cartoon. If you do, then hey, welcome to the Voltron fandom.
