Carlos Steven Universe, created by Rebecca Sugar, is considered a kids cartoon by many, but, once you start to think about the show and watch it more, you’ll soon realize that the drama, angst, and tragedy filled backstories and adventures of our favorite gems are definitely not all that suitable for kids. Viewers of Steven Universe join Steven, Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet, and Peridot, the Crystal Gems, in their adventures. The Crystal Gems aren’t the only gems, Lapis Lazuli, the gem in the mirror and possibly Jasper, the perfect quartz, is also a part of the show. Created in November of 2013, Steven Universe quickly became a favorite of many. As the episodes progressed and the story began to unfold, audiences noticed some tragic events in the gem’s past, present, and possibly in the future. Ultimately, no matter how many enemies they face, their enemy will be Homeworld and the Homeworld gems. Lapis and Peridot were once Homeworld gems but quickly changed due to them being trapped on Earth with an immense notorious reputation awaiting them at Homeworld. Homeworld goes against the beliefs of the Crystal Gems, and like every big threat, wants to destroy Earth (well more like colonize it. ) Homeworld’s goal is to colonize planets and drain the life out of them to make more gems for their army, and the Crystal Gems are the ones who’ll stop them again and again. It really makes for some excititing television. Steven Universe is enjoyed by all age groups and can be enjoyed by you. I would recommend this show to anyone who has time to binge, time to cry, and doesn’t mind getting attached to a character. Steven Universe also has songs that you might find yourself listening to for hours on end. This show is definitely a 10/10. Once you get past the childish aspect of the show, you can really come to enjoy the deeper meaning of it. Every character’s personality and interactions are unique. Their action packed adventures will put you on the edge of your seat every episode. Episodes come out every Thursday on Cartoon Network (unless on hiatus)! Be sure to check it out!
