Teach For Armenia is proud to be the only educational organization working in Artsakh that is partnered with a global network . Since expanding our work for educational equity to Artsakh in 2017 , we have placed five cohorts and a total of 70 Teacher-Leaders in the region
In just two months , life changed completely . By November 2020 , Artsakh lost 75 % of its territory . Tens of thousands of people were displaced within Artsakh , Armenia , and beyond . This movement of people has caused a housing shortage in Artsakh . According to the Artsakh Ministry of Education , Science , Culture , and Sports , Artsakh lost 100 of its 214 schools .
Faced with these new realities , Teach For Armenia ’ s Artsakh Regional Team implemented creative solutions for our sixth and seventh-generation Teacher-
Leaders and reevaluated our strategy for placement and expansion in Artsakh . Between December 2020 and June 2021 , nine Teacher-Leaders returned to Artsakh to teach a total of 600 students across ten schools . Some were able to return to their original placement communities and others were placed in new schools in varying capacities . Furthermore , the Artsakh Regional Team partnered with the Artsakh Ministry of Territorial Administration to secure housing and proper accommodations for our Teacher-Leaders .
