Artsakh
Despite a very difficult year and continued uncertainty , Teach For Armenia ’ s commitment to Artsakh is unwavering . By investing in its people , even in the direst of circumstances , we are planting hope for the future . In September 2021 , we placed 17 new Teacher-Leaders in Artsakh as part of our seventh cohort . They are joined by three Instructional-Leaders and six Teacher- Leaders who are in their second year of our Leadership Development Program . Given the post-war realities in Artsakh , which is internationally known as Nagorno-Karabakh , Teach For Armenia has worked closely with its government to adjust our placement strategy to local needs and priorities . In 2021 , Teach For Armenia collaborated with the Artsakh Ministry of Education , Science , Culture , and Sports to establish an after-school program where students participate in extracurricular activities and receive homework help . Four of our Teacher-Leaders are engaged in “ After-School , Artsakh ,” through which we leverage Change- Based Learning .
Post-War Realities
Teach For Armenia is proud to be the only educational organization working in Artsakh that is partnered with a global network . Since expanding our work for educational equity to Artsakh in 2017 , we have placed five cohorts and a total of 70 Teacher-Leaders in the region . In September 2020 , we began the school year with 28 Teacher-Leaders , teaching 954 students , across 24 partner schools . Unfortunately , that same month , Artsakh and Armenia were attacked by Azerbaijan in what became a 44-day war . As a result , much of the population , including our Teacher-Leaders , were temporarily evacuated to Armenia for safety .
