School Leadership Pathway : Seroond Schools
For nearly seven years , Teach For Armenia has trained and placed Teacher-Leaders in schools across Armenia . In 2020 , we went a step further by piloting the “ Seroond School Leadership Pathway ,” which aims to create an innovation school model while building a robust talent pipeline for future school leadership . As our Alumni-Ambassadors continue to develop as professionals , we aim to cultivate their leadership so that they can lead the schools of tomorrow .
In Armenian , Seroond means “ generation ,” a nod to the ripple effect that we aim to have with a new approach to teaching and learning in Armenia . Seroond is a multi-stakeholder initiative — bringing together Teach For Armenia , the Armenian Ministry of Education , Science , Culture and Sports ( MoESCS ), the Tavush regional government , and the global nonprofit Kizazi — to catalyze transformational change across the Armenian public school system . Through Seroond , we envision schools that cultivate self-actualized leaders who think globally and work locally to build a better future for themselves and their communities . In September 2020 , we launched the Seroond pilot program in the heart of Tavush region , specifically at School No . 2 ’ s Taktha branch in Dilijan . Over the years , student enrollment at the school had significantly decreased , putting it at risk for closure . Yet , our efforts have nearly doubled student enrollment , growing from 47 students to 74 between September and December 2020 alone .

In order to develop a robust talent pipeline for future school leaders , Teach For Armenia uses a unique placement model . This year , we strategically placed a Leadership Development Manager in the school building to serve as the de facto vice principal . Working alongside the school ’ s current principal , the Leadership Development Manager organized in-service training for all of the existing teachers , otherwise known as “ Seroond Teachers .” Simultaneously , we have also placed two additional Alumni- Ambassadors to support the Leadership Development Manager in organizing professional development opportunities for the Seroond Teachers . All of this is done in partnership with Kizazi , an international organization focused on creating a network of breakthrough schools .
