Primary Journalism Club cont’ d Taking the Lead
Teaching PE is a fantastic subject – it’ s important for pupils’ confidence, cooperation and health, but it’ s also an important way to develop and demonstrate leadership skills. Mr Kinross and Mr Shore are among the PE subject teachers at TCSoA and we asked them about leadership through PE. Both staff members enjoy rugby, a sport where leadership is so important, and they apply this in their daily roles. Mr Shore runs the Girls Rugby Club in school and so far he has over 100 pupils taking part. Mr Kinross explained what he believes sums up leadership. He enjoys the role, but it comes with“ a lot of responsibility.” He continued,“ It’ s the ability to motivate, encourage and support others.” Both agreed that the qualities of a good leader involve being respectful and caring. Pupils have the chance to demonstrate and develop their own leadership skills in class, school clubs and through volunteering. Mr Kinross says this can be through setting examples of great behaviour. They have advice for children looking to become leaders. Mr Shore explained,“ You have to play loads of sports and take responsibility,” while Mr Kinross added,“ Look for opportunities to develop confidence in leadership roles.” Mr Shore helped select sports leaders with other staff and they were looking for; hard work, teamwork and leadership. Pupils who got selected did well in the sports and became this year’ s Sports Ambassadors.

In our school we have four Houses; these are Kinkell( yellow), Drummond( blue), Cloan( green) and Tullibardine( red). The House and Vice Captains’ jobs are to set a good example to the other House members around conduct, leadership and learning. They will also help develop the motivation to complete the house challenges.
So let’ s get down to business, what is the House Challenge for this term? The House Challenge for this term is to make a mural to show the personal qualities of a‘ good person’. Cloan’ s task is to demonstrate honesty and equality, Tullibardine is focusing on love and courage, Kinkell has forgiveness and selflessness and Drummond has sharing and respect.
