OPINYON September 12-18 , 2018 Go lauds PH athletes in Asian Games SPECIAL Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go welcomed the Philippine athletes who competed in the Asian Games, saying the whole country is proud of them. “Ako, very proud po ako sa kanila… We are very happy and siguro next week pupunta sila ng Malacañang after our trip sa Jordan at Israel, iwe-welcome po sila ng Presidente sa Malacanang. ‘Yung mga medalists natin, including ‘yung mga bronze medalists po ay welcome sa Malacanang,” Go said in an interview at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). (I am very proud of them. We are very happy and probably next week, they will visit Malacañang after our trip to Jordan and Israel. President Duterte will welcome them in Malacañang. Our medalists, including the bronze medalists, will be welcomed in Malacañang). Team Philippines got four gold medals and 13 bronze medals. The gold medalists are Hidilyn Diaz for weightlifting, Margielyn Didal for skateboard, Yuko Saso for golf, and Saso’s teammates Bianca Isabel Pagdangan and Lois Kaye Go for women’s golf - team event. Go also congratulated the Philippine basketball team despite its loss to South Prayer: The Most P o w e r f u l We a p o n WE live in a world of paradise. Wonderful places and spots, beautiful faces of different people, many different cultures, big and high infrastructues, different kinds of food, and many more lovely things that truly surround the Earth. If we see things as they are, we can really say that we are blessed enough for having these things with us that not just satisfy our sense of sight but also provide us our needs. But the question for everyone is, do we know exactly where these things came from? If we will be asked by somebody, can we answer them confidently that we know who provided every single thing around us? People have different perspectives. Everyone has a belief to fight for. But one thing is for sure. The Earth and all the things in here come from God. Some say, if God is the creator of everything, then who created God? Others will answer, people created God. Because of some religions that use statues and non-living things made by man. In our current time, technologies have been very useful and helpful to humans to the certain point that we totally become dependent on that, being blind that on its dark side, technologies are also harming everyone’s life. Nowadays, people are being caught by worldy things. They might feel that the satisfaction they need can be given by what they do in this world no matter how bad they could be, how worst the outcome could be because of being liberated to do the things they want. Some people will not care to what others will say anymore. But sometimes, most of us fail because of too much depending on this world. We make these things invade our whole being rather than allowing God to invade us. And because we fail, we are being affected until it comes to the point of giving up. Many of us have lost their path after being frustrated by the world. This could be negative but sometimes, it is a blessing in disguise. But actually, this is just the way of God for us to see the reality of life and our purpose to change this life. How could it be? By knowing how to kneel down, bow heads and learn how to pray. Prayer is an unnatural activity. Since we were born, we have been learning self-reliance for self-sufficiency. Prayer flies in the face of those deep- seated values. It is an assualt on human autonomy, an indictment of independent livimg. For some people, prayer is an embarrassing interruption. Why do we pray? Is it just because we have come to the point that nothing and no one can satisfy our needs? Or we feel that we are already on that end point of our life that we become restless and tired of living? God uses different ways to teach us how we can know and believe that there is Him. We pray because we Korea, saying the country is proud of what the team achieved. “Wala po tayong dapat ikahiya at dapat natin ipagmalaki ang ating team kahit na po isang linggo lang ‘yung binuo, still, binigay natin lahat ng ating makakaya at alam ko may potential ang team natin.” he said. (They have nothing to be ashamed of. We should be proud of our team because despite having been formed in a week’s time, they still gave their best. And I know our team has potential.) Go was instrumental in sending the country’s basketball team to the Asian Games after it was announced that the basketball associations were not planning to form a basketball team that would represent Philippines. He said basketball will continuously be improved in the Philippines as the sport itself is a huge help in President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against drugs. “Imposibleng matigil ‘yung basketball. Itong sports na ito, itong basketball ay pinakamahal natin. Ibig kong sabihin, ito lang ‘yung pwede nating laruin kahit saang kanto, kahit saang gym, maglagay ka lang ng court diyan, kahit sa may… minsan mga kanto kanto lang diyan, maglalagay sila ng ring, naglaro na. Isa ito sa mahal natin na laro at isa ito sa mga makapaglayo sa mga kabataan natin sa droga. Mas lalo natin dapat palakasin ang larong basketball,” he said. (We can’t stop basketball. We love this sport. It’s a game we can play anywhere, in any gym. You can even place a court in any street corner. It is also one sport that can help the youth avoid drugs. We should strengthen our basketball program.) understand by experience, that the most intimate communion with Him comes through prayer. If we will ask some people who have faced trials, tragedies or grief, failure and defeat, loneliness and depression, discrimination, what they have felt after praying, they will say that they felt the embrace of the Lord, that they felt his presence while praying. While some will say that the feeling is unexplainable, some will share the comfort and peace the Lord has given them. It is a natural thing that we, people, face difficulties in life. It might be a physical problem, an emotional struggle, a mental disorder, but we must always remember that these hardships are just small compared to the God that we have. Problems of money, diesases, tragedies, losing of loved ones, they are just problems, and problem is just a name and God is above all names! We might be in the worst part of life this moment but we should be reminded that God is there in every moment of life. And because of his love to us, He allows these things to happen for us to realize his existence. For us to see his power, for us to feel his love through his son Jesus Christ. Prayer can change our tears into joy. It gives us peace. Through prayer, God’s power flows primarily to us. We know who our enemies are. They are also surrounding us and we must beware of that. They will pull us down until we reach that black hole where they want us to be in. They will tear us into pieces, they will kill our happiness and will turn it into darkness, they will do everything for us to give up. They are our greatest enemy, the problems and situations that are being used by the head of all the enemies, Satan. But God is good that he will never allow that enemy hold us. He loves us so much that he never think of the bad things we have done. He loves us more than anything else in this world. And we will only know that if we experience the reality of life that actually made us stronger. And no matter how difficult it is to fight despite all challenges in life, one thing remains, we have the most powerful weapon that the enemies don’t have. By: Kathryn Arlan
