(DOH) Imus City holds ‘BasuRaffle’ to fight plastic waste THE City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Imus, Cavite will hold its monthly raffle aimed at controling if not to eradicating the city’s plastic residual waste at Bayang Luma Tres village on Friday. Imus CENRO chief Antonio Bernan dela Cruz said Thursday that prizes at stake include rice, groceries and small home appliances like flat iron, oven toaster and rice cooker. “Para hindi na mapunta sa mga ilog, drainage system, i-surrender na lang nila, me premyo pa (so it will not go to the city’s riverbanks, drainage systems, they can surrender it to us, in exchange for a prize),” said dela Cruz. Imus CENRO is looking for plastic bags, metallic foils, shampoo and laundry sachets, cigarette foil, tetra packs, including candy and biscuit wrappers. This promo is open to all villages in Imus. Every kilo of plastic is equivalent to one raffle ticket. The city government, through its CENRO, conducts a monthly raffle every last Monday of the month, the venue of which “depends on the requesting village.” Those who fail to win in the monthly raffle are still included in the grand raffle every December, when bigger prizes at stake include home appliances like television set, refrigerator, among others. QUEZON CITY – The Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising & Regulatory Board (LTFRB) today distributed the initial batch of ‘Pantawid Pasada’ fuel cards for Metro Manila public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers and operators at the Bulwagang Edu, Land Transportation Office main in East Avenue. An official of the LTFRB said around 179,000 valid PUJ franchise holders nationwide will benefit from the fuel assistance program. Each recipient will receive a Pantawid fuel card from the Landbank containing P5,000 as fuel subsidy for this year. LTFRB and Landbank officials present during the distribution warned franchise holders that the subsidy is strictly for purchase of diesel fuel only, and the amount should not be used in buying other petroleum- based products such as oils and lubricants. They said any violation in the use of the card would automatically disqualify the card owner from the Pantawid program and its benefits. The card is only valid for fuel purchases at participating gasoline stations such as: Petron, Shell, Caltex, Phoenix, Total, Unioil, or any petroleum retail outlets with “Pantawid Pasada Card Accepted Here” sign posted. Wilfedo Malonzo, a jeepney operator beneficiary from Tunasan, Muntinlupa City said this is his first time to receive such a subsidy from government amid the rising cost of fuel prices. By next year, each eligible franchise holder under the Pantawid Pasada Fuel Program is expected to receive P20,514.82 annually. To know more about the Pantawid Pasada Fuel Program, please visit the LTFRB website or just follow this link to see if your name is included, http://ltfrb. gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Pantawid-Pasada- Program-Recipients-_-Partial-List.pdf. Samantala, iniutos na ni AFP Vice Chief of Staff at acting Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Salvador Melchor Mison Jr., ang pagbuo ng Court Martial para isalang muli sa paglilitis si Trillanes. BY: Kathryn A. Arlan MMDA to crackdown illegally-parked vehicles on Mabuhay Lanes By MMDA/PIA QUEZON CITY--Starting tomorrow, Friday, illegally-parked vehicles on Mabuhay lanes will be issued citation tickets to clear the alternate routes of obstruction, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned. MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said the crackdown will be conducted from 6 am to 9 pm on the 17 listed Mabuhay lanes or express routes connected to EDSA and roads going to commercial districts and shopping hubs in Metro Manila. Violators may be charged with at least three citation tickets with corresponding penalty. A fine of P200 for violating the illegal parking rule, P150 for disregarding traffic signs and P150 for obstruction. “Traffic enforcers are instructed to issue citation ticket to vehicle owners. For unattended vehicles, tickets will be attached to their windshields,” said Garcia, in a press conference on Thursday. “Motorists who do not have parking space have long been using major thoroughfares and the Mabuhay lanes as their own parking area. This practice has to stop,” he added. More than a thousand traffic enforcers are tasked to remove vehicles obstructing the traffic flow on Mabuhay lanes. “This is the agency’s response to hard-headed vehicle owners who defy the MMDA’s illegal parking rules,” said Garcia. To decrease incidents of corruption and illegal towing activities, the MMDA will also not utilize towing services along Mabuhay lanes but will use them on inner roads upon the request of local government units in Metro Manila. “There are many complaints about abusive towing firms. We do not want the efforts of our traffic personnel to go to waste because of them,” Garcia said. Last week, the Metro Manila Council agreed to increase the fine for illegal parking in the metropolis. Fine for attended illegal parked vehicles will be raised from P200 to P1000, while unattended illegal parked vehicles will be increased from P300 to P2,000. However, the imposition of higher fine will not be enforced yet as the agency officials have yet to meet with MMC’s Special Traffic Committee. According to Garcia, it is high time for vehicle owners to look for permissible parking areas or be issued with several citation tickets daily. Their intensified efforts, Garcia explained, is to open up alternative routes for motorists avoiding EDSA, more so with the construction of various infrastructure projects in Metro Manila. (PIA-NCR)
