Photo: Eric Arellano – Batangas Capitol PIO UP ADS leads first Communication Students’ Summit By Joy Gabrido CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, (PIA) – The University of the Philippines Alliance of Development Communication Students (UP ADS) led the first Communication Students’ Summit at DL Umali Hall, UP Los Banos last March 2. “Communication Students’ Summit is primarily aiming to unite all the communication students in the country para mapag-usapan at magkaroon ng diskusyon sa iba’t ibang mukha ng komunikasyon,” UP ADS Director Derrick Ordonez explained. The Summit seeks to promote unity among all the fields of communication and to show no comparison but only equal appreciation of it. One of the participants, Rachel Banarez of Laguna University (LU), expressed gratitude over the initiative of UP ADS to bring students like them together to talk about the various faces of communication. “This event has widened my perspective as a communication student since the speakers shared about lessons we were just learning from books and our professors. Lessons that they are actually putting into practice in the fields they were in,” she pointed out. ABS-CBN TV Production Head Lauren Dyogi talked about the Television Arts while Silang Cavite Mayor Aidel Paul Belamide tackled Governance Communication. The event featured various personalities who are experts in the diverse fields of communication. Domingo “Jim” Caro, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Development Communication Specialist, discussed his best practices as a development communicator. On the other hand, Eros Atalia, an Author, shared about Creative Writing. Director Dwein Baltazar talked about Film while Inquirer.net’s former Editor-in-Chief (EIC) John Nery discussed online journalism. GMA News Anchor Mariz Umali and News Presenter Raffy Tima shared about their experiences and learnings in Broadcast Journalism and the new Mobile and Drone Journalism, respectively. Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General (DG) Harold E. Clavite, as the Keynote Speaker, conveyed his message through PIA Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Regional Director (RD) Helen Tibaldo. “I am given the privilege to speak with you about how communication has the power to change people’s lives and how it transcends the fabric of academia and daily conversations to something that empowers individuals and communities towards nation building.” The Director General emphasized that the Philippine Information Agency stands by the commitment of empowering communities as it is anchored in the agency’s vision, which is to assist in developing an enlightened citizenry who are empowered to make informed decisions toward an improved quality of life and contribute to nation building. Tibaldo reiterated the call of Clavite in an interview: “We own the gadget as what my boss would always say. DE CASTRO-PIA BATANGAS) P5M Educational Assistance, ipinamahagi sa Batangueño students first Communication Students’ Summit at DL Umali Hall, UP Los Banos BILANG bahagi ng patuloy na pagtulong ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Batangas sa mga kabataang Batangueño, muling nagsagawa ng Educational Assistance Distribution, sa pangunguna ng Office of the Provincial Governor at Provincial School Board – Scholarship Division, noong ika- 18 ng Marso 2019 sa Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Site, Batangas City. Halos P5 Milyon ang kabuuang halaga ng ayudang pang- edukasyon na ipinamahagi sa mga college students, na nag-aaral sa mga unibersidad at kolehiyo sa Lalawigan ng Batangas. Napuno ng umabot sa 1,094 scholars ang Auditorium, kung saan 703 ang maintainers at 391 ang new qualifiers. Ngayong 2019, batay sa huling datos, umabot na sa mahigit 23,750 scholars ang natutulungan ng pamahalaang panlalawigan sa kanilang pag-aaral. Sa kanyang naging mensahe, ipinaalala ni Gov. DoDo Mandanas ang kahalagahan ng pagiging matapat at pagkakaroon ng integridad ng bawat kabataang Batangueño sa kanilang mga eskwelahan, tahanan at pamayanan.
