The cold breeze still hugging us, the rays of the sun kissing our skin, this could be our kind of a post- Valentine day. Finally, we have arrived, but not yet in our final destination, but the place where a motor boat would fetch us and bring us to the paradise we’ve been longing to see. The people there were still so welcoming, giving us almost everything we need. The boat came to fetch us, and the waves we were dealing with were no joke for us. Again, worry took over us but we reminded ourselves that the people who are with us on that boat would not let us be harmed. Seeing what we came for, for almost five hours, it was totally worth the wait. A paradise hidden in the deep of Cavite’s mountains, hiding from all the bad there could have been. We totally forgot how tiring it was to reach the place. We thought it was all that but meeting the people there were so much more. Still welcoming, offering us everything they could, everything they have for strangers like us. We prayed, thanked the Lord for this beautiful creation, giving us the life to appreciate these things, and bringing us safe to the place. It was now the time to enjoy! The waves were like arms opening to us, asking for a hug and who are we to reject that kind of hug? We were like kids again, playing with the waves, unable to go deeper into the sea because of the waves that were, second by second, approaching us. The sand too was like a bed, offering its comfort to us, after the tiresome play with the waves. We were so full of the place that we almost, almost forgot about what we really came here for. Talking to the people of the place, we understood that this place was something people really came for. Everything was just so photogenic, we took pictures here and there, taking with us even a piece of the paradise we were in. The place truly fascinated us. But just like what others say, ‘everything has an ending.’ It was such a pain going back, leaving the place we all fell in love with. Our travel gave us a sense of enlightenment to realize how blessed we are experiencing such a very awesome place made by The Creator. It made us to be more eager to explore and discover every hidden beauty that our Fatherland possesses. Maybe, just maybe, we found ourselves in a place as beautiful as that not just for the fulfillment of a requirement, but to enjoy and see what the Philippines’ has to offer. We definitely made the right choice. 8 Toxic Filipino ‘Thinking’ that Should Vanish by Mae Hyacinth Ludivico It’s really hard to move in a place where you are surrounded by negativity, basically, toxic people. It’s sad to think that we’re bound to encounter these kinds of people. It may be a friend, a familymember, or the society itself. According to Urban Dictionary, toxic person used to describe a person who is tainted by asubconscious malevolence or psychosis that affects the lives of those who came into contact withthem. In short, these people will do no good in your life. Having a toxic person A PARADISE IN THE END by: Kathryn Arlan THE cold wind hugged us as we took our way to Cavite. No, this won’t stop us this time, we tell ourselves. With eagerness and determination, we pulled ourselves up carrying everything we will need throughout the almost four-hour journey we will take. Today, we will set foot on the historical capital of the Philippines, Cavite. Our group decided to have our meet up at Doroteo Jose so we could take the LRT going to Baclaran. On our way, silenced enveloped us because everyone was still very sleepy that time. Instead of chatting and planning what to do once we arrive to our destination, we were seem to be saving our energy for all the activities later. At exactly 5:43 AM, we reached Baclaran where the bus terminal is located. We took a bus from Baclaran to Ternate, Cavite and as we arrive at the terminal, the tricycle drivers welcomed us with warm smiles and gentle voices that gave us the feeling of safety and belongingness even at that early point. The place has somewhat brought us back to our childhood. Trees and grass were so green and abundant that you could smell it even from afar; the sun and how it shone on us temporarily gave us heat from the cold breeze; the chirping birds that made us wonder if they were chirping because of our arrival; or the taho vendor who, even without us calling him, approached us, to whom we bought taho; all those things that even for a moment, took us all away from all the stress the city brought us, bringing us back to our good old days when everything was so comforting. Arriving at the tricycle terminal, the drivers there told us that our original plan of going to Katungkulan Beach Resort will not be possible for it was closed months ago. Worry took over us because this travel was planned for a very long time and there was no way that our day would come to an end without us enjoying the beauty of Cavite. The good thing was, the drivers were like angels heaven sent us to make our plans reach its fulfillment. We were told that there was another place where they brought the tourists, the Patungan Beach Resort. Then and there we knew the day would be a blast. The tricycle ride was so much fun for all of us because the travel during the ride showcased the beauty of Cavite with its mountains, so high that we felt our ears ache because of the high altitude, its plains so rich with palay, its fresh air you could breathe it all in, its serenity that somebody who would do soul searching would definitely find his way back to himself going to the place. Along the journey, we stopped at the opening of Kaibyang Tunnel wherein we felt like we’re survivors conquering our fear of heights climbing the top of it. Just from that moment was a great adventure we’ve been through. It was so amazing that our fear didn’t hinder us to enjoy doing it. At the top, we took pictures and observed the view. After a while we finally passed inside the lengthy and dark tunnel. It seemed like we stayed so long inside or maybe it was just us, having mixed feelings about the tunnel. Shortly after, we
