Instead, the two UK retail destinations joined forces with local Wigan Town Centre Management to host Wigan’s Christmas Cracker, an event that would include a holiday lights switch-on on November 17 (Thursday) and a reindeer parade three days later. “The aim of the Christmas events was to enhance the perception of Wigan Town Centre as a shopping destination, drive footfall and dwell time during the Christmas period and provide shoppers with memorable events while promoting each area of Wigan,” the members of the Wigan Town Centre Partnership explained in their BCSC Purple Apple Merit Award-winning submission. “Both events were targeted at the family market, which makes up 60 percent of the overall [local clientele].” Each of the partners put in £7,000 ($11,270) to plan and deliver the joint entertainment program in the hopes that they could generate some positive
