Student Artist Highlights
The Odyssey
The Thornton Academy Players presented a popular rendition of Homer ’ s classic , The Odyssey , in November . The Odyssey follows the mythical Greek hero Odysseus ’ journey home after the Trojan War .
“ We had a large cast with many roles and an extremely large tech crew working on set design , technical production ( lights & sound ), and costuming ,” says Emma Campbell , Chair of Thornton ’ s Art Department .
Eighty-five students were involved in the production , including senior Jack Tripp , who played Odysseus . The TA String Quartet accompanied the production .
Seniors Logan New and Sol Thomas participated in the American Choral Directors Association ( ACDA ) Mixed Choir in February . The two were chosen after a competitive , nationwide process that drew more than 4,000 applicants vying for 1,200 spots in four honor choirs . After three days of rehearsal , Logan and Sol performed with the Choir at the Cincinnati Music Hall under the direction of renowned conductor Eugene Rogers .
Senior Eli Palleschi , a student in AP Art & Design , received two Gold Key awards in the 2023 Scholastic Art Awards competition . Eli , shown here holding a self-portrait done in alcohol marker and pencil , earned his two awards in the Animation and Still Life Photography categories . In all , TA students received five Gold Key awards , six Silver Key awards , and 13 Honorable Mention awards in the national competition .
