Specifications of the Sardar Sarovar Dam:
● Length of the dam is 3970 feet (1210 metres)
● Height of the dam is 535 feet (163 meters)
● Type of the dam is Concrete Gravity type
● Water Reservoir capacity of the dam is 7.7 million acres feet
● The installed capacity of the power generation plant near the dam is 1450
Megawatt power and provides irrigation to around 17,920 sq kms of
agricultural lands across 12 districts.
7. Mettur Dam :
The Mettur dam is India’s one of the largest dams built in 1934 across the river
Kaveri in Salem district of tamil Nadu state. The dam is constructed to provide
irrigation developments and hydro electricity facilities to parts of Salem, Karur,
Namakkal, the length of Erode, Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli. The Mettur dam, the
hydroelectric power stations, the park and the hills make the Mettur a tourist
location.
