waterways, NAvigation commission and Irrigation after the proposal made by Sir
Mokshagundam Vishweshwaraiah to safeguard from the floods impacts on
Mahanadi basin.

irakud Dam:
● Length of the dam is 25800 metres i.e., the entire dam section
● Height of the dam is 200 feet (60.96metres)
● Type of the dam is Composite and Reservoir type
● Water Reservoir capacity of the dam is 4.7 million acres feet
● The installed capacity of the power generation plant near the dam is 347.5
Megawatt power and provides irrigation to around 75,000 sq kms of
agricultural lands of Mahandi and surrounding areas
6. Sardar Sarovar Dam :
Out of 30 dams planned on the river Narmada in Navagam of Gujarat state,
Sardar Sarovar Dam is the largest project to be built. The construction of the dam
started in the year 1987 and is still progressing. The main purpose of
constructing this project is to develop the irrigation schemes and produce
hydroelectricity.
